![]() East Valley Adult Sports Leagues Whether you’re young or old, you can’t help but feel a little nostalgic when you think back to your team playing days from your youth. I can recall some great summer afternoons chewing on Bermuda grass in the outfield waiting for a ball to come my way, and the cool winter nights trying to rebound the basketball on the lighted city park court, and even the smell of a rubber dodgeball slamming against my face in the school gym. Whatever the team, whatever the memories may be, it all boils down to a lot of laughter and fun. So, if you’re like me and take great pleasure in the camaraderie and good times of sports teams, you can register with a group of friends, or join a team on your own, and play as an adult. There are many adult sports leagues being formed in the east valley that will take you back to those good ‘ol days. If you are a fan of soccer, Arizona Soccer Club has an adult men’s soccer league in the springtime, starting in March and ending in May with games being played at Crossroads Park in Gilbert. For more information, go to http://www.arizonasoccerclub.com/index.html and click on the “Adult League” link. Big League Dreams Sports Park in Gilbert has men’s and co-ed slow-pitch softball teams for players of all skill levels. The games are played on smaller replica stadiums such as Wrigley Field, Fenway Park and Yankee Stadium. Big League Dreams also has an indoor adult men’s, women’s and co-ed soccer league. Registration for all leagues begins early summer and games start in late July or early August. What’s the best thing about this park? Its Stadium Club Restaurant, where you can gather for food and drinks before or after your games! For more information, go to http://gilbert.bigleaguedreams.com/park-information. Polar Ice in Chandler and Gilbert offer co-ed hockey leagues for all levels. They play 2 exhibition games, 18 regular season games and playoff games. The Fall/Winter season runs from the first of October through the end of March. The Spring/Summer season runs from the first of April to the end of September. For more information about the leagues, go to http://www.polaricegilbert.com/ for the Gilbert location and http://www.polaricechandler.com/ for the Chandler location. Arizona Sports League will connect you to a flag football, soccer, dodgeball, tennis, volleyball, kickball or basketball league. Go to http://azsportsleague.com/ and click on any sport that interests you. It will link you to the appropriate league where you can find all the information you need to register yourself or your team. In Tempe, you can stop by Kiwanis Park every Thursday from 6:00-10:00 PM for a co-ed “Drop-in Dodgeball” game. For more information, go to http://www.phoenixdodgeball.com/. Speaking of dodgeball, there is a league that serves the east valley where they play regular season games in Mesa and the postgame season at Bogey’s Bar & Grill in Tempe. Go to http://azdodgeball.com/about.html and check the page often to find out about new registration and schedules. Another school days game you might enjoy is kickball. If you can believe it or not, there is an adult league called WAKA (World Adult Kickball Association) where qualifying teams are eligible to compete in the annual Founders Cup World Kickball Championship in Las Vegas! You can join this particular kickball league and play in Ahwatukee, Chandler or Tempe. For more information go to http://www.kickball.com/kickball#AZ. All East Valley cities offer some sort of adult sports leagues. The City of Chandler has men’s and co-ed slow-pitch softball, men’s flag football, men’s basketball and co-ed volleyball leagues. Leagues are formed in the fall and spring. All leagues run a 7-week regular season, followed by a single elimination post season. Game days, times and fields or courts vary. For more information http://www.chandleraz.gov/default.aspx?pageid=184. The City of Mesa also offers several different year round men’s and women’s leagues including softball, flag football, volleyball and kickball. To find out more information visit them at http://www.mesaaz.gov/parksrec/adultsports/default.aspx. The City of Tempe offers softball, soccer, flag football, baseball and basketball. Go to http://www.tempe.gov/sports/adult/ for more information. The Town of Gilbert also offers men’s basketball, softball, and volleyball leagues. For more information, go to http://67.199.5.24/recreation/adultsports/. The great thing about any of these leagues is that you don’t have to bring your own team when registering, though you can. If you want to play, but can’t form a team of your own, you can sign into free agency and will then get picked up by a team that is formed by free agency or is missing a player or two. So, join a league today and begin to take pleasure in all the team sports that brought you so much joy back in the day! Thomas Davis Group Realty is a full service Real Estate Brokerage.
